Picking out my very first bass guitar was an exciting event. It is the first instrument I have ever purchased that I plan on learning how to play. Why not learn guitar first? Well, I have a love for the bass and not only that, I have been told on many occasions that is is easier to learn than the guitar. With all of the excitement of my purchase, I decided to make sure I have all of the essentials needed for my new bass. Below covers several accessories that you may want to include if you are looking to purchase a new bass guitar as well.

Bass Guitar Cases

The first thing you will want to do is protect your new investment. This requires a sturdy bass guitar case. Cases come in various styles and materials. The lower-end cases are very thin and don’t offer much protection if you plan on toting your bass around town. There are sturdier cases which are molded and padded on the inside. These cases have a hard shell and the padding keeps the bass secure. I’d highly recommend a molded case if you will be doing a lot of traveling.

Extra Bass Strings

Bass guitar strings are relatively sturdy but it doesn’t hurt to keep some spare strings handy. There are several types of bass strings available to include flatwound, roundwound, and groundwound.

Bass Guitar Straps

Depending on the bass you purchase, it may already come with a strap included.Of course there are various types of straps to choose from as well. The most popular guitar straps are usually made of leather or suede. Many are often woven and come in a variety of colors to suit your tastes. If you’re not into the fancy straps, you can always choose between vinyl and polyester.

Extra Guitar Picks

Out of all of the accessories you can have for your bass, the pick comes in more styles than anything else. You can choose from hundreds of colors as well as the thickness of the pick. Having multiple guitar picks always comes in handy.

Guitar Tuner

Keeping your bass in tune is a must and there are various types of guitar tuners available on the market. They all range in price from lower end tuners at $10 up to high-end versions that go for $100 or more. If you’re a beginner, it’s probably safe to stick to a low-end model until you become better at playing the bass.

Are you interested in how to set up a karaoke system so you, your friends, and your family can have hours of fun singing your favorite songs? Here’s what you need to set up your own karaoke system; one that’s adequate for small events and won’t send you to the poorhouse.

The first thing you’ve got to decide is what the media type is that you want to use. The karaoke CDG disc system is one of the most popular systems, but more and more professionals are turning towards MP3 and other digital formats. That’s because these types of files can easily be stored and played right from a laptop using hosting software. Talk about convenience!

The karaoke system components you need include 2 speakers, 2 speaker stands, a mixer and amp, a Karaoke CDG player, 2 wireless microphones, RF converter, a Color TV that is a minimum of 19”, a disk storage system, and all the necessary cables and accessories.

Choose a CDG player that’s a name you can trust. Quality is worth a few extra dollars. Make sure it has the features you want, but don’t pay for features you will never use.

When it comes to your mixer/amp, you don’t need a huge mixing board. It’s not a necessary item for karaoke. You need a mixer with separate channel controls and a minimum of a 7 band graphic equalizer, plus the power to drive your speakers.

When it comes to amps Fender, Berhringer, Peavey, Mackie, and Samson are just a few of the companies that make good quality affordable amps.

You need to pay attention to your speaker choices. They are what will be responsible for the quality of your sound. You can have the best components, but if your speakers are poor quality your sound quality will also be poor. Not all speakers are created equal. Speakers that work great for the DJ might not be the right choice for someone to sing through. Peavey, JBL, and SoundTech all make good karaoke speakers.

Speaker stands have gotten very trendy in the past few years. No more big ugly heavy stands; now you can get cool aluminum or fiberglass stands that are light and easy to pack. And they look real good too.

Cordless microphones don’t have better sound than wire mikes but they sure are more convenient. And it’s nice not to have all that ugly wire to get caught up in, so consider going wireless.

In order to display your lyrics on a standard television you will need an RF converter. Just run a RCA cable from the converter to the player and then cable coax from the converter to the TV. Your TV should be a minimum of 19” so that it’s big enough to see the lyrics. Other than that, no fancy buttons are required.

The disk storage system is real helpful when it comes to staying organized and being able to find the disc you want. There are all kinds of CD disk systems on the market to choose from.

Your cables and accessories should include 2 heavy duty 30’ speaker cables, 2 light duty ¼” cables, 1 double and 1 single RCA cable, one 6’ coax cable, surge protector, cable splitter, and 100’ TV coax. There may be other bits and pieces you might need, but you’ll need these items for sure.

That’s it. You’re ready to set up your own karaoke system. All that’s left is to get busy buying your equipment.

Starting a sheet music collection is easy, once you’ve decided what you want to collect. Sheet music is inexpensive and relatively easy to find. You can find music at yard sales, antique shows and on the internet. Only music that is very scarce or rare is expensive. Most pieces can be found at a price between three and twenty five dollars. Extremely rare sheet music can carry a price of up to a thousand dollars, but few pieces fall into this category. You will find music in any color graphic or subject matter you are looking for.

People collect sheet music in many ways. Sometimes sheet music is collected by the genre or songs. You could put together a history of music in America with a sheet music collection. You could do this with the entire history of our country or concentrate on one time period or decade. The possibilities are endless – be creative when building your collection! Songs have been written about most important events in our history, including wars, plane crashes and natural disasters. Themes such as love or the evolution of images of women in music are popular themes for sheet music collections. Other collectors focus on one composer or cover artist.

Ragtime music from the early twentieth century is popular with collectors of vintage sheet music. This music is considered the foundation of modern jazz music. A ragtime music collection looks great displayed in a room decorated in the Early American style. And the cover art on rag time sheet music looks great displayed in picture frames on a wall or sofa table.

Music written by famous composers is popular among sheet music collectors. This music is readily available in all music genres. Other collectors focus on rare or vintage sheet music. The value of these documents depends largely on the condition of the sheets. Pieces in mint condition will be more expensive. Most sheet music isn’t found in perfect condition. The spine of the sheet was usually broken to make the score stand up in the music stand. Spills, tears and names written on the covers are common because sheet music was often used at parties.

Sheet music displayed in a family room or bar area makes a great focal point. Even people who don’t collect sheet music use it in a display of other collectibles. Collectors of beer, whisky, golf, military, cigars or trains can find sheet music to accent their collection. A few pieces of sheet music with great cover art enhance a display of other collectibles. Collectors of memorabilia from movies or Broadway productions often look for sheet music written for the production.

Any sheet music that isn’t displayed should be stored properly to preserve the condition. Store each set of sheet music in a plastic baggie like those used for comic book collections. Place those bags in a large plastic storage container to protect them from being ripped or crumpled. Store your containers in a dry place away from sunlight or moisture, which can damage the music.

One of the things a lot of us enjoy is listening to music. As a musician and songwriter, a great deal of my time is spent listening to or creating music. Sitting at my synthesizer and spontaneously playing a tune is also one way I relax and unwind after a hard day. Tickling the ivory is great when you want to relax your mind, and physically energize your body. Somewhat like physical exercise, playing a musical instrument releases pent-up anger and utilizes the extra adrenaline the human body produces when under stress.

Music is also therapeutic and vital to human beings and allows us to escape from the stresses and demands of our hectic and fast-paced lifestyle. Forgetting the worries we carry around with us, music allows us to take a journey to a faraway place, without ever leaving our chair: somewhere pleasant, exciting, and at the same time, stress-free.

Recording our favorite music on CD’s, iPods, or creating play lists for our computers, we can simply develop our own compilation of music-to-go and play them in cars, in the gym and while at work. With the latest popular technological invention, the iPod, the prospect of musical fulfillment is endless. The iPod can store a multitude of tunes and enables the listener to have virtually uninterrupted songs to enjoy whenever and wherever we choose.

With all the current technological advances at our disposal, musical expression has come a long way, taking recording music and sound to the next level. Whether you perform music or are an avid listening, most humans will agree: Life would not be as colorful without some form of music to enrich our lives.
