What is the difference between art and entertainment?Art and entertainment are both things that are perceived. Good art and good entertainment both produce a satisfying experience for the beholder. What is the difference?
Everyone has raised some interesting points but I still haven't found an answer which really explains it.
Some of you have characterized art requiring a creative process but so does entertainment. Also some have said art is expression but entertainment can also be expression. Just think of comedians who express their views in often hilarious ways which offer real social commentary just like art might.
Entertainment has been associated with enjoyment. If there is no enjoyment, there is no entertainment. However, not all forms of entertainment are enjoyed by everyone just like not all forms of art are enjoyed by everyone. Even entertainment within the same genre can be both liked and disliked by different people.
The most common theme I see in your answers is that art is for thinking and entertainment is for enjoyment. I don't think this holds up because the same thought processes that make art stimulating also makes entertainment stimulating.

"Entertainment Web site" is such a broad term… What exactly do you want to do and how do you plan to make money off of it? Celebrity gossip and online games are both entertainment, but technology involved is very different.
Anyhow, on to your questions…
Is the start-up cost minimal? Define "minimal"… You will need four things: domain name, hosting, content, and content management software.
Domain name can be registered for about $10/year.
Cost of hosting will depend on the amount of traffic you expect to handle. Initially, you can get away with paying less than $10/month, but as your site grows (hopefully), you may need to migrate to a more robust (and more expensive) hosting solution.
Content is the biggest unknown. You can produce it on your own, pay someone else to produce it, syndicate it from elsewhere, or do a combination of any or all.
Content management software can be had for free if you deploy on Linux (there are plenty of stable and robust content management systems written in PHP and Python), but you will need to customize the system's visual appearance, which will probably cost you a few hundred dollars.
Does it cost a lot to maintain the site? Depends on what kind of hosting you have and how much traffic you handle. At a minimum, you will have to pay the monthly hosting fee. If you generate a lot of traffic, your hosting company will charge you for over-the-limit bandwidth.
What should you know or do before starting an entertainment website? Figure out the content. What it is going to be, who is going to produce it, how much it will cost, etc.

It's an outlet for me. I like to answer questions where I think my experience might help them. And while I agree that a lot of folks on here have pretty poor grammar, most may be from another country, so I give them the benefit of the doubt.
In my mind there are certain area's of my life that are personal and I will not comment on others views, one is religion. Each to their own, live and let live. While I might disagree with the philosophy, I will not answer those questions. Sex is another area that is personal. Why someone asks… well you get the picture.

I think it depends on the person. I don't really watch cartoon network, but I think Spongebob is the shi!t.
When you reach your twenties, it comes to a time when you're pretty much forced to get into the "real world" — move out if you haven't already, get a job, maybe start a family…there's nothing wrong with having a time when you act like a kid for a little bit. It's a natural thing to want and a natural thing to do — they're not hurting anyone, so why should it matter?
Chances are, they watch other things, as well. Even if they don't — maybe it's just what they enjoy.

You will get full functionality from the surround with DVD's because they are MADE to use all the channels (particularly the rear ones). The rear usually providee the background sounds-not the conversations, but the sound of the person walking across the carpet. Cable TV is NOT mastered for surround, so you will not get all your system involved. But if you have good speakers, it will still sound good.
